March 31 2010 - Ottawa Ontario. If Canada were a show, this would be it! Built on only a $9,900 Millennium grant and a dream, A Musical Taste of our Canadian Heritage, a fast paced, 90-minute, live bilingual production of the history of music in Canada will deliver for its tenth year running its critically acclaimed unique package of Canadian culture and talent to students, tourists and the general public.
“It is always a huge thrill to see how the audiences are totally blown away by the scope, pace and professionalism of the musical offerings in a production which is incredibly ambitious - and still a relief every time we pull it off! It is a sort of Mission Impossible achievement.” says Deborah Davis, the show’s creator, producer and lead female singer.
This historical musical kaleidoscope showcases more than 80 pieces of music as diverse as our nation’s culture itself. Native dancers and drumbeats and a rousing overture stir the soul in preparation for the whirlwind experience of more than 400 years of contemporary and traditional songs, dances and dramatic performances.
This history of music in Canada has wowed tens of thousands causing audiences to burst with pride in their Canadian heritage from performances for student audiences to performances on Parliament Hill celebrating Canada Day.
This year A Musical Taste of our Canadian Heritage marks its tenth anniversary by presenting five shows in the theatre at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, Quebec. Tickets are still available for the Thursday, June 3, 2010, 7:30pm show by calling 613-321-2066 or by e-mail at canadaroars@yahoo.com.
After the show, Odyssey Showcase will host a reception for VIP guests to celebrate their 10 years of success and to thank their major sponsor TD Music which has supported them from the start. Max Keeping (CTV Ottawa) who is a member of their honourary board and who emceed their fifth anniversary reception will again be the emcee for this event.
“Making contributions that have a lasting, positive impact where our customers, clients and employees live and work is the driving force behind our Community Giving program,” says Gary Dunne, Senior Vice President, TD Canada Trust. “This particular sponsorship affords Canadians a tremendous opportunity to celebrate our country’s rich and diverse history through a musical experience.”
